Green Technology Solutions’ Director Reece Sleightholme says he wants to develop the company into a ‘one stop shop’ for air conditioning, refrigeration, solar PV and heat pump systems. Reece has been with GTS from the beginning, starting at the company on launch day in November 2023. He said he has big aspirations for GTS as people think more about efficient ways of heating and cooling their homes.
“We have had lots of interest and inquiries about heat pumps recently,” he said. “It’s a big market. “However one of the challenges this technology faces is that traditionally it hasn’t belonged to one specific trade. “There’s an element of involvement from traditional air conditioning contractors as well as plumbing & heating and electrical contractors.
“A historic challenge has been trying to marry-up all three. “What we’re trying to create at GTS is a one-stop shop for all green heating and cooling technologies. “We want to make customers' lives easier, so they only have to make one phone call.
“GTS has the resources to design and supply a high-quality system, but we can also carry out the plumbing and heating works that are involved as well as take care of the electrical aspect. “We are then there to offer the right advice post installation.
“Things like correctly setting system temperatures, set points and operating modes are crucial for optimum performance and energy savings, leaving people happy they’ve made the right choice opting for a heat pump. “Our vision is based on putting ourselves in the shoes of a customer – how can we make it as smooth and easy as possible for them.”
Reece started his career as an apprentice before working in both hand-on roles on site, and later in design and management roles. As a result, he is a huge supporter of apprenticeships, saying “I wouldn't be where I am without it”.
“What apprenticeships do is give you the principal knowledge of how a trade works, and the required skill set to operate in that industry,” he said. “As an apprentice, my attitude was to just be a sponge and absorb as much as I could and ask as many questions as I could. “I just wanted to learn as much as possible – I had a real hunger for it. “Speaking from personal experience, I wouldn't be where I am without it. “Apprenticeships are a fantastic way to learn skills that will stay with you for life.”
In his spare time Reece is a musician, playing in ska band The Downsetters for the last 15 years. His time in the band has seen him play in seven different countries as well as gracing the stage at the Glastonbury Festival.
“For something that's technically a hobby, it's been amazing, creating some great memories and experiences,” he said.
